IMAGINE 2021 will be held:  February 12th-14th, 2021

Q:  What does a group entry involve?
A: Each Large Group Ensemble or Small Group Ensemble entry will consist of 3 pieces from one show, or by one composer, lyricist, or composer/lyricist team. The chosen songs should involve all of the performers as much as possible. Look for contrasting pieces that will showcase all performers.

Q:  Is there a deadline to register? 
A: The registration deadline is January 21, 2021.  Late registration (with a $100 late fee) may be accepted if there is still room available.  A non-refundable registration deposit of $100.00 per student ($500 maximum) is required for groups to register.  Payment must be received by within 14 days of the on-line registration form being submitted.

Q:  Who is eligible to attend IMAGINE?
A:  Eligible Apprentice Division students must reach the age of 9 on or before August 1st, 2020.  Eligible students in the Junior Division must reach the age of 12 on or before August 1st, 2020.  Eligible students in the Senior Division must reach the age of 15 on or before August 1st, 2020 and must not have reached the age of 19 on or before August 1st, 2020 AND must still be attending high school. Birth certificates and/or transcripts are required upon request. Students performing in duet, 3-4-5, small group,  ensemble or design categories will compete in the Division of the oldest student.

 

Q: May I watch my student's entries?

A: Students, directors, chaperones, and parents are encouraged to be audience members as space is available.  Each admission for those wishing only to observe is $25.00.

Q: What should we wear? 
A: No costumes are allowed for the competition in any categories, INCLUDING modern-day dress.  Simple accessories are allowed.  Groups using costumes will have points deducted from their adjudications. 

For Saturday's Competition Day:
*All students will wear black clothing for entries in ensembles/groups/3-4-5 categories
*Semi-formal business dress is appropriate for technical category presentations
*Solos and duets should be what a student would wear to an important audition

 

Q: What about rights/licensing? 

 A:  Important Royalty/Licensing Information:  It is the Director’s responsibility to clear the performance or pay the appropriate royalty fee for the musical.  Neither IMAGINE or the leased facilities will accept legal responsibility for any violation of copyright by a school participating in the festival.

Q: Is there more to know?

A: A complete Guide for Directors, as well as a Student Guide, are furnished with each registration, and will include additional specific details for the event. 

 

Q: What types of material are best for our presentations?
A: The festival exists to promote growth for student actors/designers and will provide workshops, mentoring opportunities, relationship building with other theatre peers, and performance/presentation opportunities with feedback and adjudication in order to promote a well-rounded experience. All pieces chosen for performance by contestants must be appropriate for viewing by a grade 4th-12th  audience. Please avoid obscene language, graphic content or questionable situations in your material. We want to provide a high-quality theatre experience in a family-friendly environment. Scores for a contestant or group will be reduced for unsuitable material. Please contact us if you have any questions.
 

Q: Are there scholarships?

A: Each year, IMAGINE gives two scholarships for the entire student package.  Please view the scholarship application for full details.  This honor is available to a recipient ONE time.   December 1st, 2020 is the FIRM deadline date for this year's applications.

Q: How do we need to pay for our experience?

A: A calendar of important dates, including when payments are due, can be found on the "Calendar & Costs" page.  Please note:  please carefully read the cancellation and refund policies.

Q: How does student rooming work at the hotel?

A: Students are housed in up to quad-occupancy rooms.  Rooms of more than 4 students are not allowed.  Students are not allowed to room in student-only rooms unless they are 12 years or older by the date of our event.
